Smoothies are probably the one food that practically everybody can agree upon. They're incredibly delicious, healthy, and nobody notices when they're made of only whole food plant-based ingredients. They're easy to make and can substitute nutritionally for an entire meal, when in a hurry.

With exception of hard-core coffee fans--vegans and omnivores alike--almost everyone loves Starbucks. Among regular customers are those who crave coffee, and those who crave sugar and dairy calorie-laden blended beverages. Some of us never want to leave the "third-place", thanks to free wiFi, refills, jazz and comfortable chairs. But if you're counting calories, watch out for those free food and drink samples!

After I watched an hour-long lecture Dr. McDougall gave on diet and Multiple Sclerosis, I became ever more convinced the path my wife and I embarked on was the correct one. If I could get my parents to understand all this, perhaps this whole vegan thing might actually help my father get well and stay well for many years to come! I immediately ordered a DVD copy of Forks Over Knives to be delivered to my parents, and sent my mother a link to Dr. McDougall’s lecture on MS. Who would have thought that a simple, meat, dairy, and fat-free diet could stop an insane disease like MS in its tracks?

Although still in progress toward a 1oo% plant-based diet, I'm happy to have played some small part in Jim's journey, and I'm honored to run his personal account on my blog.

Most so-called soba noodles are little better (perhaps worse) than plain white-flour pasta. 100 percent soba noodles are not sold in most stores, even in Japan, the home of soba. And when you can find them, they're usually three-four times more expensive! Nonetheless, if you want to take advantage of soba's health benefits for the cardiovascular system and controlling blood sugar, you should choose noodles that are at least 80 percent soba flour.

After looking into the Paleo diet I found more similarities between it and a healthy vegan diet (whole foods plant-based diet) than expected.

A big attraction of Nava’s reuben recipe is that it's baked, rather than fried, therefore no need to use margarine or oil on the bread. Using Isa’s tempeh marinade recipe for both tempeh and seitan, the jar of sauerkraut that had languished for almost 4 years was gone in weeks! Not only are these vegan reubens delicious, they contain half the calories of typical meat-based reubens, and no cholesterol!
